WE ARE AGAINST THE USE OF UNNECESSARY PLASTIC

PLAY AUDIO GUIDE

Plastic pollution is one of the most pressing problems we are facing (source: Unesco). An estimated 50-75 trillion pieces of plastic are floating in the sea threatening the health of the oceans, marine species, human health and coastal tourism. Plastic waste accounts for 80% of all marine pollution and about 8-10 million tonnes end up in the ocean each year. Research states that by 2050, there will be more plastic in the sea than fish! Plastic, thanks to its durability, lightness and cheapness, has revolutionised our lives, enabling the introduction of life-saving devices and technologies that have changed the course of history, but the many advantages it offers have led to a ‘disposable’ trend with serious consequences for the planet. Even the recycling figures are not comforting: only 10% of the plastic produced is recycled, and that which does not ends up in the seas, it is burnt causing air pollution. The problem is complex, and to tackle it each and every one of us is challenged to make our own choices. Reducing its use in our daily lives, pushing for proper legislation, promoting research and supporting organisations working to clean up the seas can all be part of our contribution. Delicius has also chosen to eliminate plastic from its primary packaging starting in 2023. Target achieved: plastic accounts for less than 2% of all Delicius packaging purchases, in the belief that the best waste is the one that is actually not there.
