Protecting the oceans means taking specific decisions to protect fish resources, ecosystems and communities that depend on fishing for their livelihoods. This is why a large part of Delicius’ raw material supply is managed within guarantees offered by sustainable fishing certifications and documented annually in the sustainability report. The aim is to ensure that fishing, conducted in compliance with legislative requirements, meets three fundamental requirements: respect for fish stocks, minimisation of environmental impact, and effective catch management. Another important commitment is raising consumer awareness and promoting responsible fish consumption, made possible by products from certified sustainable fisheries, such as MSC, and adhering to the principles of the ‘Blue Transformation’ strategy promoted by the FAO and showing how fish from fully sustainable fisheries can provide additional nutrients critical to global food safety. In addition, scientists from the Blue Food Assessment internationally found that foods such as seaweed, bivalves, and small pelagics (sardines, mackerel, and anchovies) from fisheries have, in addition to the highest nutritional benefits, a lower environmental impact than most land-fed foods of animal origin. This is an important building block for overall sustainability that places fish consumption among the correct eating habits.
